Actor Kevin Byrd is calling on all men in the United States to observe Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

International Voice for Prostate Cancer Awareness Award Winning Actor Kevin Byrd Calling All Men in United States to test for Prostate Cancer

New York, New York – September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and Actor Kevin Byrd is calling on all men in the United States to observe Prostate Cancer Awareness Month by looking into early detection and screening for Prostate Cancer

Fact: One in every six men get prostate cancer. Prostate Cancer is the second leading cause of male cancer death. Men of color have the highest rate of prostate cancer in the world. Prostate cancer, caught early, has over a 90 percent survival rate.

Early detection can save your life.

On January 1, 2008, in the United States there were approximately 2,355,464 men alive who had a history of cancer of the prostate. This includes any person alive on January 1, 2008 who had been diagnosed with cancer of the prostate at any point prior to January 1, 2008 and includes persons with active disease and those who are cured of their disease. Prevalence can also be expressed as a percentage and it can also be calculated for a specific amount of time prior to January 1, 2008 such as diagnosed within 5 years of January 1, 2008

Encouraging men to take advantage of prostate cancer screening/early detection is the highlight of Mr. Byrd’s advocacy because it is really a way to save lives through early detection & screening.

The BrownByrd Prostate Cancer Foundation has been featured in over 200 media publications, awarded 125 Proclamations and received recognition from President Barack Obama, President George Bush, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, New York State Governor David A. Patterson, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and several other elected official including Buckingham Palace on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, but nothing please him more than men taking heed to his message and getting regular checkup for Prostate Cancer. Mr. Byrd states my voice is important in raising awareness, but that means very little to him if men are taking action to live a healthier life through preventive measures.

Kevin Byrd first became involved in Prostate Cancer Awareness Advocacy when his grandfather C. J. Thomas passed away at the age 65 from Prostate Cancer. His grandfather was and active member of the church serving as a devoted deacon and director of the men’s choir. As a grandfather he spent quality time with Kevin fishing, going to the movies, and setting an example of community & civic engagement. Kevin has been involved in Prostate Cancer Awareness since the age of 22 and is now 30, and his passion and drive for this cause lies in his desire to save lives.

Kevin Byrd founded BrownByrd Cancer Awareness Foundation to raise awareness of Prostate Cancer Awareness through theatrical performances to bring out the community to a venue where the community at large could become educated about Prostate Cancer. At intermission of his performances he gives awareness talks and hands out literature regarding what men can do increase the chances of early detection of the disease and reap the benefits of a longer healthy and productive life.

BrownByrd Prostate Cancer Awareness Foundation has worked tirelessly to inform society whether it is internationally, nationally or locally about the awareness of Prostate Cancer. The Foundation has worked diligently in collaboration along side 80 cities and states in America that support our efforts to inform citizens in their locality about the prevention and awareness of prostate cancer. For the last three consecutive years many state have declared the day of February 2nd in honor of the BrownBryd Prostate Cancer Foundation on behalf of 200 million citizens. Incidentally, the month of February is also Black History Month, and what better time to encourage and make aware African American men who have a high incidence of Prostate Cancer to take action in the form of early screening and detection.

Kevin Byrd and Co-Founder Blossom Brown as a means of outreach to the community regarding Prostate Cancer Awareness established the Foundation in 2008. In 2003 the collectively produced and wrote short film titled “The Last Dayz” which illustrated the life of a young male who is diagnosed with prostate cancer, and who learns how to cope with the realization of having this deadly disease. The film “The Last Dayz” is stilled being used as a tool to bring awareness to men about the importance of being tested for prostate cancer regularly, and even for women to inform the men that they love to be tested.

Mr. Byrd will be joining a prominent organization in the near future as it’s Health & Wellness Chairman to further impact the mission of BrownByrd Prostate Cancer Awareness Foundation.

Kevin Byrd recently starred in his own off-Broadway one-man show that he also co-wrote with Jason Hendricks and co-produced with Marc Meir, entitled, “Release,” in which he played six different men at six different phases in their lives. Release is about identity issues faced by many young men. The play depicts the lives of six personalities, and the lives of six men ranging in age from 18-60, all from different walks of life, in a one-man show. For instance, there’s Tony – a teenage boy who suffers from identity issues due to not knowing his father. Tommy, another featured character, is an extremely successful college graduate who deals with the challenges of pleasing his mother. These and the other stories portrayed in "Release" contribute to enlightenment of the thought process of young men and as a result, garners understanding and appreciation for them.

Queen Bee" an Original Screen Play

Once again, Russell M. Tyson has created an outstanding piece! Where does he get it from, Who knows and/or cares? We just know it has to be seen! For the dialog, directions, costuming, sound effects and more; it's going to be crazy!

"Queen Bee" is the marketing concept of the living environment between rich and poor; of any race and gender! This production demonstrates the characterization of majority; far as style, stereotyping and much more.

In the myth of a woman who strives each moment of her life to be more than just the average woman; yet she has little education, one talent, strong hustle for her goal and huge ego. How did she get her "wealth?" Well, in order to know, you have to be a part of this next dynamic piece, written by Russell M. Tyson, playwright of Atlanta. Or come out and see for yourself
